AK Steel
Project/2005
 AK Steel faced EPA mandated
upgrades to its emission controls system and a rigid 6-month deadline for
compliance. The steelmaker called on UGS to expeditiously:
- Fabricate & erect all structural steel for BOF foundations, supports and
ductwork
- Fabricate & erect supporting electrical buildings
- Install provided 16-ft. diameter emission
ductwork and associated manifolds including the large Induced Draft Fan
UNITED Rigging Services placed the structural steel and
16-ft. diameter ductwork at roof-top
levels more than 150 feet above grade.The entire project
was completed on schedule.

UGS received a
2005 National Excellence Award for the AK Steel project at
ceremonies of the ABC National Convention in Las Vegas. Honors are awarded annually, from hundreds of submissions
nationwide. |
